Dezeen - Designed in Hackney at One Hundred Shoreditch
The Designed in Hackney exhibition at One Hundred Shoreditch showcased the work of five rising design talents from Hackney, who were nominated by one of east London's most significant designers. Curated by Dezeen, the exhibition follows on from an initiative the online architecture, interiors and design magazine launched 10 years ago to celebrate the incredible diversity of creative talent in Hackney in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A decade on, Hackney is home to a whole new generation of creatives, so Dezeen asked five high-profiled designers based in the borough to each select a rising star, and I was nominated by artist Camille Walala.
About the work: Our world is made up of striking patterns and unusual shapes. Searching for and photographing the quiet city details brings me huge joy and makes me feel calm. This mural is inspired by my archive of happy pattern moments that I’ve photographed from around the world - from my home streets here in Hackney, to the geometric architecture in New York, to the stripey shadows on my walks through sunny Berlin. I invite you to put your ‘pattern goggles’ on and view your everyday surroundings with fresh eyes. I hope my work inspires in you a new appreciation for our mighty and spectacular cities.
