Louisa Tan (Common Exception) and I are the creators of Music + Awe - a creative drawing and deep listening experience designed to spark wonder, creativity and joy through sound, movement and play.

 

For Hackney Art Week, we brought Music + Awe into a new chapter, collaborating with Liza Al Sady of We The Conscious, a breath-led multidisciplinary studio rooted in movement, mindfulness, emotional clearing and self-expression, for a one-of-a-kind session where music, art and breathwork met.

For this special edition, participants were guided through deep listening, using the sounds, rhythms and beats of music to inspire unique shapes, marks and lines, alongside simple movement prompts and guided breathwork from We The Conscious, inviting everyone to listen in a new way. The musical journey moved through classical, jazz, dub and disco, creating a space to experience awe - that feeling of wonder and joyful curiosity that soothes the nervous system, reduces stress and anxiety, and leaves us feeling happier, more creative and more connected.
